Seth Update

I can't remember what I have said about Seth's speech so here are some updates. Seth has been in speech for 9 months now. His first teacher that we had for 2 months was terrible, and I guess I wasn't the only one who complained- the lady that we go through to get the services said that a lot of families complained about the same things, mainly that she didn't really want to work with kids. When we first met she told me to get rid of sippy cups, get rid of the pacifier, and that she would not teach him sign language. Well he was only 18 months and I was not going to get rid of sippy cups- I already have enough messes to clean up and the pacifier I was OK with but Seth was not having it! And he was communicating with sign language so I didn't like her from the start. SO we got a new teacher who we LOVE!! She is awesome, the first day she brought all kinds of signing books and was really impressed with how fast he learned them. She told me not to worry about sippy cups they do not hinder speech and that we will work on the pacifier thing! At 18 months he had maybe 4 words that he said and about 10 would that he would sign. Now he has way over 50 words he uses and is learning new ones all the time. He is just now starting to combine words so he is behind on that but is making progress. I am really enjoying the program and will be sad when he turns 3 and will move up to the preschool level. I am excited that if he qualifies for speech after he is 3 (tested in May) he gets to go to preschool (the same preschool that Mikayla is in right now) for free. 4 days a week both of my kids will be at school for 2 1/2 hours! No matter what Seth is going to preschool at least 2 days a week but free is always the best:) I will try and get video of him talking and put it on here!- he is the best at saying things for Mikayla;)

I am glad you switched teachers. If you hated her imagine how poor Seth felt!

Way to go Seth! But no hurries - didn't a wise man once say "It's better to listen then speak." I don't know but it sounds poetic.
